The Gorodomlya Island Project
When 20 year-old RAF recruit 'Cocky' joins up after the war, he is disappointed to be doing technical drawing instead of flying planes. But when he takes part in a secret mission to recreate the V2 'wonder-weapon', he meets German and Russian rocket scientists, including Sergei Korolev. Four years later he is abducted to Gorodomlya Island and forced to work on a rocket for carrying nuclear warheads as far as London or New York. He is determined not to advance the technology. His love of classical music becomes the key to his daring escape. This is a true, though embellished story, written by his daughter.
Not being a great reader of spy stories it had not occured to me that no details of the 'secrets' are usually given. But it's fascinating to unpack those 'secrets' - a great angle. As too, your NOT James Bond, an anti-hero, just your father as an ordinary young man. I found myself thinking that The Reluctant Spy might make a good title.

Reviews
This has been a lovely book to work with. I think I said to Heather (Commissioning Editor) that I could see the book as a film.

You've taken quite a lot of creative liberties with my story. I suppose the book is all the better for bringing those old memories of mine to life. It's so much more exciting when I read it now than it ever was living through it. I was scared stiff most of those years.
